2022 AFF Cup Semifinals: Shin Tae-Yong Warns Park Hang-Seo Ahead of Indonesia vs Vietnam Match

brominemedia.com - The meeting between the national teams of Indonesia and Vietnam in the semifinals of the 2022 AFF Cup will be the third match between the coach of Vietnam, Park Hang-Seo, against Shin Tae-Yong since the end of 2020.

The first leg match, Indonesia vs Vietnam in the last four of the 2022 AFF Cup, will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, January 6 2023. The kick-off for this match starts at 16:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) and will be broadcast by RCTI.

Ahead of the match, Shin Tae-Yong was questioned about his team's meeting record with the Vietnam team under Park Hang-Seo. Either on the senior and U-23 level, Indonesia under Tae-Yong has not yet won against Hang-Seo.

In the 2020 AFF Cup which took place at the end of 2021 in Singapore, the match against Vietnam ended in a draw with neither team scoring any goals. Then at the 2021 SEA Games which was held in May 2022, the Indonesian U-23 national team lost 0-3 to Vietnam.

However, Shin Tae-Yong remains confident that the performance of the Indonesian national team is currently improving.

"Certainly, once the coach was replaced, the Indonesian national team will not automatically change for the better," said Shin Tae-Yong to the media crew ahead of the Indonesian national team's training in Field A, Senayan, Wednesday afternoon, January 4 2023.

"That means it takes time to improve to the top. Now it's also time to give Vietnam a good match and we won't have any problems."

Shin Tae-Yong mentioned the difference in the football situation in Indonesia when he came across the conditions faced by Park Hang-Seo when he arrived in Vietnam in 2018.

"When Park Hang-Seo arrived, (Vietnam) also had achievements, although not many," said Shin Tae-Yong.

"However, their league was progressing and the matches were running normally at that time. But I came (started to coach Indonesia) with a different situation."

"As soon as I arrived, there was the Covid-19 pandemic and the league went to a halt several times. So, there were lots of problems," he said.

"But now is the time to be able to play well against Vietnam. Certainly, we won't make this match easy for Vietnam," he added.

The Indonesian national team has qualified for the semifinals of the 2022 AFF Cup as runners-up in Group A, with the same points as Thailand, who won in the same group but lost on a goal difference.

Meanwhile, Vietnam advanced to the last four of the tournament by leading Group B standings with 10 points, the same as Indonesia. Park Hang-seo's team is one point ahead of Malaysia which is the second team in the same group.

The match between the Indonesia vs Vietnam national teams in the first round of the 2022 AFF Cup semifinals is important for the team under Shin Tae-Yong. If they manage to win in the first leg match, Witan Sulaeman and his colleague will have a good chance in the second leg match in Vietnam on Monday, January 9.
